My City

Six years have passed since the historical day when Hong Kong, the last remaining treasure of the British Empire, returned to its motherland. How did the city cope with this remarkable transition... the many unprecedented occurrences, big and small, personal and communal, lingering and fleeting, that are forced upon the city by the swirl of history? My City, a series on Hong Kong, portrays its contemporary experience from 1997 to the present.

The series focuses upon the Swirl, the centerpiece of the work that comprises of sixteen paintings, symbolizing Hong Kong's unrelenting energy. The accompanying twelve peripheral paintings depict situations surrounding the Swirl. Together they capture Hong Kong's recent journey, a passage of time marked by extraordinary changes, for the city, and the many people that call it home.
