I started making this series in the dark days of epidemic in 2020 when the world was crumbling down by disease and politics. I draw, paint and cut holes hoping to see through them, but in vain. In the end, I assemble them under the theme ‘ Broken ‘ . Each piece contributes literally and metaphorically to its meaning.
War Oil on canvas 60x76cm
It is a rug hanging in the home of residents of the Middle East. The holes, deliberate or imaginative , shows the war scene they come across in the daily life past and present. The omega and the cross signs are ancient war symbols whereas the bullets and aircrafts are today’s. May be the holes are made by bullets though it seems too neat for that….
Making sense Oil on canvas 76x60cm
This painting shows the juxtaposition of text in three fabrics. Started from the left are Runic alphabets, Arabic alphabets and idioms and Chinese seal script. The diversity of cultures and civilizations they are representing, are dangling and broken down too.
Fire Oil on canvas. 60x76cm
Stop the fire! stop global warming! This disaster has been raged from Australia to Amazon to United States. It will destroy our world one day !
Ice Oil on canvas. 60x76cm
Global warming, ice melting, glaziers crumbling. Our world will be submerged !
Collapse Oil on canvas 60x76 cm
The blocks are falling but their order are still maintained forming a new pattern. As our world and value are crumbling down and wading away, a new order of equilibrium will appear...there is always hope.
Mystery1 Oil on canvas. 60x76 cm
The breaking down of modern architecture into different planes creates a sense of mystery. The two pieces in the front looks like two doors that is open up to the outer space. However, the black prism is a block , a restriction that light cannot go through.
Mystery2 Oil on canvas. 60x76cm
The breaking down of modern architecture into different planes creates a sense of mystery. The two green blocks are separated by a gap, exposing the lawn and the sky. But the mirror in black creates a twist . It looms superstition and threat to a peaceful landscape.
Mystery3 Oil on canvas 60x76cm
The breaking down of modern architecture into different planes creates a sense of mystery. The blue structure resembles that of a waterfall from the darkening sky that masks the blackness at the back.
The fresh blue and pleasing violet colors on the surface cover up the darkness behind.
